Access Arrangements

The rules for Access Arrangements are set by The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) representing the 7 largest national awarding bodies in the UK covering GCSEs, A Levels and vocational qualifications. Applications for Exam Access have to be agreed with JCQ who update their regulations each year. JCQ guidance is also used by schools administering the Transfer Test (GL Assessment & AQE) in Northern Ireland. An Examination Access Arrangement Report can be used for reasonable adjustments in End of Key Stage Tests.

JCQ require a report from a suitably qualified professional (Specialist Assessor). This type of assessment will report on reading skills, writing skills (including spelling), and processing skills that may cause a slow speed of working in an otherwise able student.
